Travel Day and The Hyatt

Ah, Disneyworld. WDW. The World. Probably my favorite place to be.

Here we go again. Although we have been there many times, we are off for another trip to this magical place. Our son, Nick, is 17 years old this trip, so his experience will be different yet again. We shall see how teenage cynicism does in the happiest place on earth (I know, Disneyland, but I do not care). His parents, Debbie and Joe (myself) are a lot older, but still looking forward to the trip with enthusiastic anticipation. I am actually the WDW fanatic, but we are all expecting to have a wonderful time.

We are members of DVC, and will be spending a terrific week at Old Key West. The rooms here are amazing, the service is wonderful, and the grounds are gorgeous. We always look forward to this place.

I am not certain if we will do a travel day into the Hyatt next trip. What we have been doing for a while, and have done this trip, is to come in the day before our real vacation starts, an spend the night at the Hyatt Regency at the MCO. This saves us paying for an expensive nights stay at the resort, when you only get to spend a fraction of the day at the parks. But, we are thinking that a night at the DVC property is so much nicer than a night at the Hyatt. Plus, when you have finished your long journey that first day, you are done traveling, and get a heck of a reward. And, it is easier to get going in the morning. You loose a chunk of the first day coming from the Hyatt to the resort in the morning, so the first day would be more complete if we just spend our arrival night at the resort. We are also at a point where we dont squeeze every minute out of every day the way we used to. The risk nowadays coming straight in is that you never know if the airlines are going to mess with your arrival time. But, we will try coming straight in next time, and see how we like it.

We left 18 inches of snow in Denver, and arrived to 85 degree weather in Orlando.

We had an uneventful trip down. We parked as usual in a commercial lot near the airport, and cleared security pretty easily. Nick was watching videos on his iPod touch, and Debbie was watching a movie on hers. I tried to sleep, and list to a little iPod music.

Usually, we seem to get a room on facing the inner courtyard at the Hyatt, but got one facing outside this time. I think the room is nicer, and had a great big balcony. But, I prefer the inner facing, I think.

We were in time for dinner at the Hyatt. It was expensive, but pretty tasty. Debbie and I each had the pulled pork sandwich, and good sweet potato chips. Nick had a burger. I remember more of a BBQ flavor the last time I had the pulled pork here. This was still good, but a tad dry.

Tomorrow....the World!
