Typhoon Lagoon, Time In Room, And Disney Quest

This was the day that we had planned to go to Typhoon Lagoon. But, my cold had really kicked into high gear at this point. I didnt want to further aggravate it, and I didnt want the kids to miss the experience. So, believe it or not, I spent most of the day in the room!
I worked on my trip report and sorted through my photos,I made myself some breakfast in the room. It was a pleasant day (nice weather outside), and I was relaxing, but would rather have been at the parks. Overall, however, this investment in rest probably paid dividends the second half of the trip.
I went down to Goods To Go for lunch. I was disappointed to find they would not be serving hot food until 11:30. I had chicken strips in mind. But, I had a turkey sandwich, which was really pretty good. I also had a piece of key lime pie, which was great.
I returned to the room and some more photos and trip report writing. I also played a little WoW (remember, I had paid for 24 hours of Internet access, so this was a lucky coincidence).
Debbie and the boys came home about 3, and reported a great time at Typhoon Lagoon. I guess the water roller coaster, which I have yet to experience, was really something.
By the time everyone was cleaned up and ready to go, it was pretty close to 4:00. It turned out that the boat to downtown started running at 4:00, so we decided to wait for the boat, rather than taking the bus.
We were headed to Downtown Disney to make up for having missed our planned time at Disney Quest the night before (even though we ended up Downtown anyway the night before, we just did some walking about).
We ate at the Rain Forest Cafe. We used to have an RFC in Denver, and we do really miss it. The experience here was mixed, but I had to rate it as a winner overall. The food was good overall, but the service was really weak. I guess it is just not the same as a Disney run place. Debbie and I both had the steak and coconut shrimp.
The steak was just OK, but the shrimp was terrific. I wished I had ordered just the shrimp. The kids both had pizza, and were happy about it. We also had a big appetizer sampler, which was good. I had a smoothie, which was pretty good. The atmosphere is very neat. We walked right in, without a priority seating or reservation. This was the most expensive meal of the trip.
Debbie headed for the room, and the kids and I walked down to DisneyQuest.
DisneyQuest is still a lot of fun, but there is a bit of magic missing compared to our previous visits. Nick attributed it to WoW, as we now have very high gaming expectations. I think this is a contributing factor.
But, I think a lot of it has to do with Disneys failure to maintain DQ the way they should. Arcades require a lot of attention to maintenance and new technology. This is, of course, very true of an ambitious arcade like DQ. It does not feel as though the commitment is there. A number of things we in disrepair.
A lot of the pinball games and some of the arcade games were not working. The Buzz Lightyear attraction desperately needs maintenance (half of the cars were pulled off to the side, although there was a big line for the ride). The Pirates attraction, which had been our favorite before, didnt seem quite right.
I did not seem to be able to steer the ship, and we never moved very far from our initial dock. I remember some simulated motion on the Alien (rescue) thing, but I may be wrong. In any case, this attraction felt like it could use some touching up.
Ride the Comix and Jungle Cruise seemed about the same as before, with the same mixed reaction I have had in the past. Both concepts are really great. But, we have never had much luck steering the Jungle Cruise boat, and Comix just does not adapt to well if you are wearing glasses. Nonetheless, Comix may have been the most fun thing I did here this time.
Because a lot of things were not working right, most everything that was up and running seemed pretty crowded. We kind of did everything once, or at the most twice, and headed for home.
The boys did ride CyberSpace Mountain several times. I was going to ride it with Nick, but he insisted on designing the coaster (you take as full motion simulated ride in a coaster that you design), and he also insisted on being totally insane. The kids had a great time on this though (it is a very neat concept, well executed, and seemed to be working perfectly).
We left much earlier than planned, and slightly disappointed. I was still kind of sick, and the boys had been in the sun all day. Still, even though Nick is getting older, he should be right in the center of the demographic for this place, so I was surprised it did not hold his interest more.
I think they need to fix a number of things, and may need a new high end attraction.
We were on our way back to the room by 10:00. We walked to the bus in front of Planet Hollywood, and had a quick pick up. The busses were actually a little dicey most of the trip, but this particular one was quick and easy.
I did not really work on my trip report and photos, because I had my fill for the day. So, we were all in bed pretty early.
