Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Cirque

Some of the pages in this trip report are up to my old standards, some are not. This one is one of the ones that is not. But, this has taken forever to get posted, and better this than nothing.

So, some freeform text, and a handful of pictures. And, I still have one more trip to write about!!

We found the high speed internet to work really well in the room. It is an Ethernet connection, not WiFi, to which we have become accustomed. But, we ahd not trouble at all web browsing, playing WoW, or sending e-mail. The e-mail was a little dicey in sending pictures, but worked OK if you sent one at a time (would sometimes stil refuse to send, but if you tried a second time, it would probably be OK).

Cirque: Without a doubt, the worst seats I have ever sat in at any Disney venue. And, I have sat in various performance theaters around the parks, including hard ticket shows, the theter and movie theater on board the cruise ships, many, many rides, etc. I don't recommend this for any average size person. More crowded than the airline on the way down. For $80, I should not have to hold my breath for two hours.

Show was OK. Production value is very high, of course. But, even not counting the seating, was this worth $80? Kind of don't think so, when there are over a dozen free and near free shows going on at the same time around the property, and I already paid for those with theme park admission. I'm not sorry we did it--we cans ay we tried something new. But, I am certainly not going again, and cant highly recommend it to anyone else.

Rode on: Dinosaur, Safari, Bugs, and Everest.

Brutally hot and humid. AK always is, and the weather today said 95% humidity. We were wore out.

No Debbie until the evening. Doing laungary and resting in the room, doing some computer stuff.

Rain when coming off of AK bus on the way home. Took a little nap, was over when I got up.

Raglan Road is a gorgeous place, and I really, really, enjoyed the live Irish band. There although our dinner was at 6 pm. I had the not friggin chowder, Debbie had the salmon, Nick the meatballs and penne pasta. We also had short ribs appetizers. Honestly, the chowder was good but not great, and the same with the ribs. Nick felt about the same about the meatballs. Debbie said the salmon was great. But, the deserts were all wonderful. Debbie had the bread pudding, Nick the chocolate kiss, and I the creme brulle. Interesting creme brulle in a pie shape, very thick, and with a pie crust. A tiny bit of whip cream, a rasberry, and just a little chocolate sauce. The extras did not overwhelm, and the creme brulle itself was outstanding. Truly a great desert.

Nick and I had burgers at the walk up counter place in Harambi Village. Tusker House, one of the best counter service places in the park, is now a talbe service. So, you are stuck with burgers if you are on the mal plan and want ot use up a counter service. Burgers were good, shake was very good. Bag of regular chips. Paper straws?

Snacked on and off, pretzels, almonds. I stuck with water most of the day. It was better, considering the weather.

Everest is a really good ride. Nick says not intense enough. I found the rise to be more dramatic than I remember, and the backward loopin in the dark to be pretty wicked. Beautifully landscaped, clever little story. I liked it a lot. The final Yeti is awfully brief. Blink and you miss it.

I still like Dinosaur. Louder than I remember. Very clever ride, good animatronics, nice ride system. Exciting and funny after all this time. Preshow remains good also. Bill Nye, miss his shows.

Had a very good Safari. Kind of late, but the sun was not really out, and the animals were. Gues they don't mind the humidity. Rhinos (both black and white--realy could see a diffence, white is kind of yellow, blakc is like an elephant), elephants, girrafes (blocking the road), crocs, hippos, wildebeasts (running around, interesting), tommys, cattle. Nice driver, older guy. I thought we saw quite a bit.

Bugs is still a very, very good show. A lot of noise from little kids around us. So it goes. The 3D and special effects and corny humor remain terrific.

Everest and Dinosaur both nearly an hour wait. FP on safari, not too long a delay. Bugs almost a walk on.
