Obrins At WDW December 2006 First Time List

First Time List

All of us true WDW fans get the question all the time: Why go back to WDW over and over again? Havent you seen it all?

To answer that question, I like to make a list of 10 things we did this trip, that we have never done before.

Admitedly, the list this time has a lot of food venues on it. But, we had only been to the world 9 months ago, so there were not a lot of big openings this time for us.

Anyway, here goes the list (in no particular order):

1. Spoodles

We ate at Spoodles for the first time this trip. Although the food was fairly good, it was not spectacular. I doubt that we will eat there again.

2. Spoodles Pizza Window

This is very different than spoodles. It is just a walk up pizza window, and then you eat on the Boardwalk. This was incredibly good pizza. Nick actually called this the best pizza he has ever had. and that covers lots of pizza. We will definitely eat there again the next time we are on the Boardwalk.

3. Mama Melroses

Again, we found this place to be just ok, and we are not likely to go back. This did not reallyh seem to be traditional Italian food, or even traditional Italian American food. The quality was good, but not great. No that the Fifties Prime Time Cafe does not seem to be as much fun as it used to be, we are kind of searching for a couple of good places to eat in MGM.

4. Finding Nemo at Epcot

This was kind of fun. Defintiely is not going to become one of our favorite rides, but it was worth riding again. I did think they had some synchronization problems with the sound. The free form way they put the ride together probably made this synchronization challenging.

5. Tonys Town Square Plaza

Unlike Mama Melroses, this was very good. I would call it typical Italian American food. We found exceptional service, a neat decor, and good food. We will be back here again.

6. The Boardwalk

That is, staying at the Boardwalk Villas. This was very nice. It was extreemly convenient. The location and transportation to both MGM and Epcot were great. There are alos neat recreational opportunities on the boardwalk. The room was nicely appointed, though slightly smaller than our room at Old Key West. We all would like to stay here again.

7. Pop Cenntury

This place was really quite nice, though clearly a budget resort. Without a doubt, we would stay here again, if the situation called for it. I think this is even cooler than the All Stars.

8. ABC Commissary

These were very good burgers, at a neat little out of the weather place. This is certainly good for a quick meal.

9. The Disney Dining Plan

We have mixed emotions about the DDP. It cost us about $800 to $900. Would we have spent that much on food otherwise? We certainly would not be buying so many deserts and appetizers. So, it probably save us money in terms of what we ate, but most likely not compared to what we would have ate. Also, we left meals on the ticket at the end of the week, because it was tricky to use. Habing to split the plan based upon staying at two different hotels did not help. We will have to think about this one. I will say that this is a very different than the old incarnation we had done a long time ago.

10. Osborne Light on streets of the world at Epcot

We had seen the back lot version of this a few years ago. It was neater on the back lot, no doubt about it. They have animated it to make up for the fact that it is a much smaller display. That was impressive. This is surely still cool, and worth seeing. I guess there is no point in bemoaning the old version, since the backlot neighborhood is gone.
